DEC Alert | Information on HPAI in NYS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ALL NYS FALCONERS

The DEC has issued advisement for falconers in managing Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) detected in the Eastern and Midwestern United States and
Canada, in both wild birds and poultry facilities.

On February 19, 2022 the first case of HPAI was confirmed in Suffolk County, NY in a backyard flock. It is considered likely that there are infected wild birds in NYS that are not yet detected. In order to maximize protection to our raptors and ourselves, the DEC has created the following document, which goes into detail on the situation, the disease, reporting suspected cases, and the CDC's recommendations for prevention.
